Promising results for TitanB in aqueous slurry
TioTech has for two years been a partner in the EU (M-ERA.Net) funded project PLASMANODE together with University of Liege (Belgium), Innovative Coating Solutions (Belgium) and Ferroglobe (Spain).
The main goal of the project has been to develop eco-friendly Si- and TiO2-anodes for Li-ion batteries by using water-based deposition techniques and to optimise a plasma-coating technique for active materials and conductive additives used in battery slurries.
The project has benefited from TioTech`s (TiO2) and Ferroglobe`s (Si) thorough material knowledge, combined with ICS`s unique plasma-coating technique and Uni Liège`s electrochemical competence.
After coating, analyzing and testing numerous samples both in organic and aqueous battery slurries, the main conclusion of the project for TioTech was that our titania works very well in aqueous slurry, demonstrating good dispersability and electrochemical results in half-cells. Water-based processing is more environmentally friendly than organic, and the use of toxic solvents like NMP is avoided.
